Loftia multiplayer
You can play Loftia solo, and you still need an internet connection. There is no offline mode. Friends play together by being on the same server. The FAQ says you are not locked to one server. It does not publish a player cap, a region list, or a cross-play guarantee.
I kept seeing “loftiamultiplayer” as if it were a separate mode you toggle. The FAQ treats the whole game as online: solo is allowed, a connection is required, and shared activities (neighborhoods, adventures, world projects) are the multiplayer. A 2023 developer blog talked about concurrency tests in the hundreds and a hope of around a thousand. I am leaving that in the history sentence, not in the current spec.
Playing with friends
Same server, not a private lobby the FAQ describes. Cross-play between Steam, Epic, and later Switch is in testing language (“aiming for,” “researching”). Do not promise a friend on Epic that your Steam character can join them.
Each platform is its own purchase. A friend on Steam and a friend who only owns Epic are not automatically in one group, even if cross-play ships later, until the team says the accounts connect.
Controller play is supported, including on Steam Deck. That is input, not a matchmaking region.
What is not published
No server region list. No maximum population. No statement that voice chat exists. NPC friendship is planned and not a multiplayer feature. If a group finder claims a cap, it is not from the FAQ.

Questions
Can I play Loftia alone?
Yes. The FAQ says solo play is fine. You still have to be online.
Is it an MMO?
Yes. Steam tags it Massively Multiplayer, and the developer describes it as an MMO. A population cap is not published.
Does co-op need a subscription?
The game has no subscription. Switch Online, later, would be Nintendo’s fee on that console only.
